The Construction of Mulungushi Conference Centre: A Rapid Achievement

The Mulungushi Conference Centre, a significant venue for international diplomacy, was built in just 107 days to host the 3rd Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement from 8-10 September 1970.

This rapid construction effort was a testament to the urgency and importance of the summit, which was chaired by President Kenneth Kaunda of Zambia.

The conference brought together 54 member states, 9 observer countries, 11 liberation movements, and 3 unity organizations, marking a pivotal moment in global diplomacy.

The swift completion of the Mulungushi Conference Centre demonstrated the commitment and efficiency of the Zambian government and its partners in accommodating this high-profile event.

The centre remains a symbol of Zambia's role in international relations and its dedication to fostering dialogue among nations during a critical period of the Cold War.
