Likishi Lya Mwana Pwewo and Tusona
Likishi Lya Mwana Pwewo belongs to a living system of initiation, ancestral presence, performance and instruction among Luvale, Chokwe and related communities bordering Zambia, Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Tusona carries memory, cosmology and guidance through dots, continuous lines and symbols. Its meaning does not live in the visible mark alone — it lives through the storyteller, learner, ceremony and community able to interpret it. Colonial collections preserve the mark while severing the language required to read it.
What knowledge remains visible when the people who know how to read it are removed?
