Luchele Nganga: The Guardian of Chitimukulu's Legacy

Luchele Nganga, a Portuguese physician, played a significant role in the history of the Bemba people by accompanying Chitimukulu and his migrants from what is now the Democratic Republic of Congo to Zambia.

Following the death of Chitimukulu, Luchele undertook the construction of a special tomb for the revered leader. He built a clay brick hut with an iron door and beams to entomb Chitimukulu's body in a place called Mwalule.

This tomb has since become a sacred site, and every Chitimukulu, the paramount chief of the Bemba, has been buried there.

The tradition established by Luchele Nganga has been maintained through generations, highlighting the enduring cultural and historical significance of Mwalule as the final resting place for Bemba leaders.

This practice underscores the deep respect and reverence the Bemba people hold for their leaders and the enduring legacy of Chitimukulu.
