Halley's Comet: A Landmark in Cometary Science
Halley's Comet, one of the most famous comets, was first observed by spacecraft, providing groundbreaking data on the structure of a comet's nucleus and the mechanisms behind coma and tail formation.
Originally recorded by astronomer Edmund Halley in 1682, this comet has made several notable appearances: in 1758, 1835, 1910, and most recently on 11th April 1986.
The 1986 observation, facilitated by space missions, marked the first time a comet had been studied up close, offering invaluable insights into its physical characteristics and behavior.
Halley's Comet is expected to return on 29th July 2061, continuing its long history of providing crucial information to scientists and captivating observers with its celestial displays.
