Anglican Cathedral: A Blend of History and Heritage
The Anglican Cathedral, completed in 1962, stands as a testament to both architectural and historical significance. The cathedral features unique concrete window frames sourced from the Copperbelt, reflecting Zambia's local resources.
Additionally, some of its wall stones were reclaimed from other notable cathedrals, including Canterbury in England and churches in America, linking the structure to a broader religious and cultural heritage.
A particularly cherished element of the cathedral is the smaller Ethiopian Cross, a gift from Emperor Haile Selassie, who visited and worshipped there in 1965. This cross symbolizes the connection between Zambia and Ethiopia, highlighting the cathedral's international ties and its role as a focal point for spiritual and cultural exchange.
The Anglican Cathedral’s construction and its components reflect a rich tapestry of global influences and local craftsmanship, embodying a unique blend of historical and cultural narratives.
